Fresh Not Rancid
Using a nitrogen manufacturing environment, there is no opportunity for oxidation to occur, thus preventing rancidity (free radicals). With the addition of stabilising antioxidants, Nordic Naturals’ products are third party tested and documented to have the highest freshness value available. This is Nordic Naturals’ foundation for uncompromising freshness. High rancidity levels in oils render them toxic to the human body.
Nordic Naturals uses a nitrogen manufacturing environment where there is no opportunity for oxidation to occur, thus preventing rancidity (free radicals). Nordic also incorporate a synergistic blend of powerful antioxidants, made specifically as a natural product to stabilise fats and reduce the effects of oxidation. This is the foundation for uncompromising freshness.
Polyunsaturated oils (i.e.: flax oil, fish oil, evening primrose oil, etc.) are highly susceptible to "peroxidation", which is a technical term for rancidity when exposed to oxygen. In order to prevent this process from happening, Nordic Naturals has added a natural blend of advanced antioxidants to "stabilise" their oils and protect them from becoming rancid. This blend consists of lecithin, ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin C), added vitamin E with both gamma and alpha tocopherols. An independent analysis has shown that this natural blend of antioxidants can stabilise fish oil up to 20 times longer than standard antioxidants, which translates into better taste and better results!
Distillation for Purity & Concentration
Distillation required by Norwegian Medicinal Requirements
Nordic Naturals’ goal is to deliver the highest quality Omega-3 fatty acid products available. They measure the quality of their Omega-3 products based on three variables: Freshness value (meq/kg), Purity (PCB ppb), and Concentration level (% DHA & EPA). Theirr products are manufactured according to European Pharmacopoeia, Norwegian Medicinal, and GMP requirements.
Their product quality exceeds all these requirements, which is mainly due to their molecular distillation process. They distill all of their Omega-3 products for purity.
Nordic Naturals Omega-3 oils are Third Party tested with positively no PCBs, heavy metals, or dioxins. Our oils have been tested down to 2.5 ppb exceeding FDA purity levels by 400 times.
Sustained Molecular Distillation
Here, the virgin oil is molecularly distilled to segregate out the two most important Omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, and to eliminate the potential of heavy metals, PCBs, and dioxins in the product. The molecular distillation process represents a gentle and efficient oil enhancement, and generally takes about 5 days to process. The entire manufacturing process is carried out under nitrogen or vacuum.
This is done to maximise the products’ freshness value, which facilitates the production of favorable prostaglandins. Prostaglandins control an array of vital bodily functions.
Through the use of molecular distillation we are able to deliver Omega-3 products with concentration levels above 80%. A final nitrogen flush removes oxygen, preserving the oil from oxidation and maintaining the ultra low peroxide value.
